Why is Trickshot a member of the Lair Legion? Why is Amazing Guy not a full time member?

Well like the other guys there’s two ways to touch this. Writer wise and Story wise.

Writer Wise:

I created Trickshot as a Parodyverse Hawkeye. He’s brash, rebellious and cocky. Yet he’s also strong willed, determined and confidant. Someone who, armed only with a out dated weapon, has thought “Hey, if I take this skill, become the best at it and keep being the best, I could challenge any threat, stare down any god or demon and show them what a single human could accomplish.
His stubbornness foils all the authority figures. his brashness offends everyone. His cleverness can astound the mightiest and his determination is stronger then some of the meta humans on the team.

For the longest time I regretted not having my flagship poster character, Amazing Guy, in the Parodyverse Avengers/JLA. But when I finally pulled my head out of my butt and took a good look, I realized everyone was right. Tricky BELONGED there more then AG.

AG is far more powerful then both a typical Green Lantern and Quasar, combined. With the cosmic senses of Captain Mar Vel, the energy manipulation of Quasar, built upon his will like a GL, as well as the power to cross dimensional, spatial and chronal barriers as easy as a person would cross a thin beaded curtain, he can also focus his cosmic senses to lightly read peoples thoughts. He’s a boy scout type Superman who the public at large recognizes and cheers. He’s not going to foil anyone, or add anything to the team that guys like Finny, Epitome, Hatman, Goldeneyed or Yo don’t already add. He doesn’t have to be a Over-his-head-human-bound-and-determined-to-triumph-dispite-the-odds because he can always rely on his powers to pull his butt out of the fire.

Tricky though, IS swimming in water way over his head. He could get killed at any moment but he laughs the challenge in the face. Amazing Guy would be happy at home with his family. THAT’S his restful happy place. Tricky would be happy jumping head first into a mess that outnumbers him and lowers the chances of getting out alive, so that he can laugh it off, proving his weight and having a ball. That’s his happy place.

AG doesn’t need the LL and they don’t need him. Tricky needs the LL and they need him. They’ve got people with powers who can save the day and AG’s skills would get lost in a shuffle of heroes who can do the same. They don’t have many regular non-powered humans who can rise to the occasion and teach them this valuable lesson; It’s not the powers of a hero that makes the triumph, it’s the heart of the hero.

Story Wise:
For the longest time Amazing Guy wanted to be on the Lair Legion. He didn’t see the points above and thought the best way to help people was to be in the public eye with the most famous team. In resent years he’s learned that he can help people right were he is. He’s got his hands full with a family, his super team the JBH and his mission as Protector of the Universe. He’s VERY grateful to be an honorary member and will use these privileges to help others and be there for the LL whenever they need him. But if he was asked to join the regular line up, he’d say no because he’s doing too much as it is.

Trickshot is a different matter all together. He comes from an alternate Earth where he joined the League of Regulars (the early version of the Lair Legion) after their first few cases. So being a member is second nature to him. To look into the why we have to touch on some simple events that make him who he is.

His mother died in childbirth. As far as he knew his father gave him to a “brother” to raise. This brother was Roy Bastion. That man was in fact his real dad. Carl Bastion didn’t know this so he grew up with his mentor, an excellent archer in his own right, and trained in the skill of the bow and arrow. He worked the circus and the circus people were his family. He didn’t have a traditional home and so with out a mother and thinking his father was a deserter, he never had the stability a normal home would provide. So he desires, deep down, to belong. At age twenty he left the circus to strike it out in the world. Life isn’t easy though and he tried to commit his first crime so that he could eat. A simple bank robbery he figured it would be easy, but the armored hero NTU-150 easyly stopped him. Instead of carting him off to jail, NTU offered him a second chance. If Trickshot would use his skills for good, he wont turn him in. Tricky accepted and got a job at a boys club, training kids in archery. He patrolled the city streets taking out bad guys.

Remember, Tricky is from an alternate Earth. In the normal Parodyverse Trickshot went on at this point to marry and be betrayed by Natalia Romanza, a Russian spy. He was killed by Baron Zemo. But our Tricky, on his Earth, was not betrayed and not killed. Instead Natalia, a woman he was finally able to love and give his heart to, was killed. Carl felt the world drop out from under him. NTU-150 had offered him the chance to join the League of Regulars. He took it. He worked along side the team, finally finding a home to belong to and friends he could relate with.
Years passed like this and he finally found a older brother he never knew he had. Samuel Bastion, whom was adopted out as a baby. Sam was an excellent swordsman and became Sword Sam. He hung around the Lair Legion and might have been offered membership if not for that horrible day Carl missed. One day there was a crazy shift in all the realities. Trickshot found himself in the Parodyverse. While he was away from his home universe a being called the Narrator attacked his Earth and killed the Lair Legion and Sword Sam. When the upset in reality was over he was sent home to find them dead. He blames himself even though there was nothing he could do. The Hooded Hood gave him the opportunity to help people on another Earth and he took it, not looking back. He was under the impression that his Earth was destroyed while he was again away. So he holds a lot of guilt.
He eventually wound up back in the Parodyverse and was given the option to join the Lair Legion of the prime universe. He jumped at the chance.

Everyday he fights to prove himself worthy to be there, never letting up his guard to make sure THIS Legion doesn’t die like the one he knew before.

And THAT’S why he’s in the Legion.
