One question posed by HH was this: What links the names given for the Caphans? It was noted that this was really a CrazySugarFreakQuestion, but CSFB declined to answer.

The short answer:

They're all named after alien women from the original "Star Trek" series, but with an extra letter added to each of their names. That's it. I was looking for names for them all, and looked up the original green slave girl from Star Trek that inspired the Caphans in the first place, and came across a few websites devoted to the women of Trek. (That slave girl was named "Vina" by the way. "Drea" was another Trek alien woman.)

Ian was sure Kirk would figure this one out. Anyway, beyond the names and being aliens, the Caphans have nothing to do with thier Trek counterparts, but I've included little encyclopedia entries for all of the Trek characters below.

(And no... I can barely name the crew members of Trek, let alone one shot characters from ancient episodes. So I'm not surprised nobody got this joke. We just thought somebody might think to remove the extra letters when googling the names, however.)

Alien Women of Star Trek:

Miri: A young woman who survived a disastrous biological experiement on her planet. The experiment was intended to create a virus that would extend human life, but resulted in the deaths of all the adults on her world. Only the children survived, their lives greatly extended, until they reached puberty. Miri had reached puberty at the time the U.S.S. Enterprise contacted her planet in 2266, but was saved when Dr. Leonard McCoy was able to develop an antitoxin for the virus. (From the episode "Miri")

Nona: Kahn-ut-tu woman among the hill people on Tyree's planet, and ambitious wife of tribal leader Tyree. Using her special knowledge as a Kahn-ut-tu, Nona cured James Kirk of a deadly mugato wound, then cast a spell that rendered him unable to resist her wishes. Upon learning Kirk's true identity as a starship captain possessing advanced weapons, Nona stole Kirk's hand phaser, hoping to use it as a stepping-stone to power. Nona was instead killed by a mob of village people who viewed her as a spy. ("A Private Little War") From: the Star Trek Encyclopedia

Kara: Leader of the Eymorg women of planet Sigma Draconis VI in 2268. Although untrained in the sciences, kara underwent a memory-implantation procedure that gave her the necessary knowledge and skill to successfully steal Spock's brain so that it could be used to run her planet's master computer system. Luma: One of the Eymorg women of planet sigma Draconis VI. ("Spock's Brain"). From: the Star Trek Encyclopedia

Deela: Queen of the Scalosian race who commandeered the Enterprise in 2268, intending to procure a supply of fertile males for the perpetutaion of her race. Like all Scalosians, Deela's biochemistry had been hyperaccelerated, so one hour for her was like one of our seconds. Deela was attracted to James Kirk, and accelerated him to her level. Kirk thwarted her plans, and Deela subsequently returned to Scalos with her people. From: the Star Trek Encyclopedia

Losira: Last survivor of the Kalandan outpost whose population was killed 10,000 years ago due to a deadly microorganism. After Losira's death, the outpost's computer system used Losira's image to protect the outpost against invaders. The replica was able to kill by touching a victim, matching his chromosome pattern, then killing the person by cellular disruption. ("That Which Survives"). From: the Star Trek Encyclopedia

Odona: Daughter of Prime Minister Hodin of planet Gideon. In 2268, Odona volunteered to sacrifice her life by contracting deadly Vegan choriomeningtitis so that her death might serve as an inspiration to others on her planet in their fight against over-population. While carrying out her assignment, Odona was cured of chorioomeningitis by Dr. Leonard McCoy. She nevertheless chose to remain on her world to help solve its problems despite the fact that she had fallen in love with Captain James Kirk. ("The Mark of Gideon")

Philana: Wife of Platonian leader Parmen. Philana ws some 2,300 years old and enjoyed the benefits of pwer in her repressive society. ("Plato's Stepchildren"). From: the Star Trek Encyclopedia

Sayana: Sayana and her lover Makora were two of the "people of Vaal", in The Apple. They witnessed Ensign Chekov making love with Lt. Landon, and this inspired them to imitate the acts they had seen. When tribal chief Akuna discovered them, he rebuked them in Vaal's name. It was because of this incident that Vaal asked the men of his people to kill Kirk and his party.
