Josh Clement hefted his bag over his shoulder. He had made his rounds of the room, bidding farewells, even fond ones in some cases, to his comrades. It was time for him to move on.

He headed for the door, but one last resident of the Mansion had yet to say his good-byes. He moved to block Josh’s exit.

    “Hatman,” Josh acknowledged.

    “Josh,” he replied.

“Y’know, you can’t really bust me for being a mutate freedom fighter anymore since mutate freedom fighters don’t technically exist anymore.”

“I’m not here to bust you for anything,” said Hatman.

“Upset because now you have to redo our tactical maneuvers since I’m leaving and powerless?”

    “Nope.”

“Umm, I don’t think I’ve made any passes at your girl lately, have I?”

“Not that I’m aware of, and since you’re powerless now I’d suggest you don’t start,” smirked the Capped Crusader. “I’m here to say you did good, Josh.”

“I’m sorry, I think some of my hearing may have been lost with my powers.”
“There’s nothing wrong with your hearing,” Hatman assured him. “Seriously, back there against Morbido, you did good. I was impressed.”

    “Yeah? Really?”

“Yeah, really.” Hatman extended his hand. “I’m proud to have served with you as a Legionnaire.”

A big grin broke across Josh’s face. “Well, for being a g-man with a stick up your cape, you’re not bad yourself.” He shook Hatman’s hand. “Hey, what’s this?” There was a small object that Hatman had passed to Josh.

“That’s your communicard. Once a Legionnaire, always a Legionnaire. Keep in touch, eh?”

Josh fiddled with the card, then put it in his pocket. “I think you’ll hear from me from time to time.”

    “Good. And Josh?”

    “Yeah?”

“Don’t use it to make passes at my girl.”

Josh grinned again. “No promises man, no promises.”

    “Take it easy Josh.”

“Keep your stick on the ice hoser.”

END

That was a very epic ending to a great arc, and I agree with CSFB! that this was much better than the original source material. This was a very fitting final chapter as it embodied the charm and wit of the entire series. And there was that big double-page spread too.

I'm sad to see DBS go, and to see you go as well, but congratulations on achieving your goal. A lot of people dream of something and don't follow through; I'm very impressed how you've followed through and have achieved it.

Just because you can't be a regular doesn't mean you're excused from visiting. Drop by whenever you feel the urge!
