Visionary and the Heart of Darkness: Epilogue #3 “Chemical Heart”

Gothametropolis York: Inside the old firehouse that used to be the headquarters of the Abandoned Legion, and is currently the headquarters of Extraordinary Endeavour Enterprises, a strange scene is taking place. A room has been cleared of clutter except for a metallic hospital bed, on which the Legionnaire known as Visionary sits, looking somewhat uncomfortably at the sparse surroundings, and wearing only a hospital robe. A male voice is heard via the intercom speaker and camera high in the wall, the only other objects in the room. The voice is that of Al B. Harper, arch-scientist and associate member of the Lair Legion. He asks Visionary if he is sure he wants to proceed. Visionary replies that he is, he has to make sure everything is alright, he owes it to Kerry and Miiri to ensure he will be around for some time yet. In the next room, Al B. raises an eyebrow at his companion and speaks through the microphone for Visionary to lie back on the bed. As he does so, the door to the sterile room opens, and in walks an imposing figure in a deep red robe. It is none other than Xander the Improbable, Master of the Mystic Crafts. He speaks in a foreign tongue, an archaic and mysterious language that sends shivers up Visionary’s spine. As he approaches the bed on which Visionary lies, he withdraws his hands from his robe and scatters a golden dust around the room, and over Visionary. Some of the stuff gets up Visionary’s nose, and he sneezes, but manages not to make another sound after a sharp look from the arch-mage indicates it would not be wise. More incantations and magical powders follow, soon the air in the room is heavy with magic. Visionary feels his eyes closing, his mind slowing, his whole body relaxing. The arch-mage tests Visionary’s reflexes, and when there is no response, he looks up to the camera and nods, indicating his magical slumber spell is complete. With that he turns and departs the room.

No sooner has he departed, than a new figure enters, a woman, with purple hair. Although she’s wearing a nurses uniform, it is unmistakable to those who may know her that the woman is none other than Yuki Shiro, cyborg PI and erstwhile partner to Al B. Harper. She is carrying a large, oversized metallic syringe-come-gun in her hands. She walks through the magical ether, being a cyborg she is unaffected by the potent spell. Coming to Visionary, she rips his hospital robe open to reveal his naked chest. The voice of Al B. Harper comes through the intercom again, motioning her to be gentle. She pokes Visionary in his stomach, and makes a flippant comment about crullers. Then, her clear purple eyes flash, and she plunges the syringe-gun into Visionary’s chest above his heart! Squeezing on its trigger, she releases its payload into the still unmoving figure of Visionary. Withdrawing the syringe now, she blows across its nozzle as one who has just shot a revolver, looking up to the camera and winking as she does so.
